I come home from a hard night of doing whatever the fuck it is that I do and I find a message on my screen. It was from soup, what a treat! Let's see what this scholarly gentleman had to say...

<soup> silfeed: i was going to write something about hellsing but im drunk here's my notes. go nuts
Hellsing, I think I saw an episode once. It's an anime series on vampires or schoolgirls or something. Hey, he gave me notes! Who am I to turn down a free post?
Well then, that Pulitzer Prize winning write-up makes David and Margaret look like fucking amateurs.
Wait a second...

I watched the Hellsing series a few years ago when i was sharing a house with some computer geek mates who had a LOT of anime (and pr0n, of course). From memory i liked a few things about it:
- The artwork
- The way Alucard ingeniously and carefully hid his true identity by spelling it backwards (and how everyone pronounced it Ah-card, as if it was some ancient utterance heavy with occult connection - which i guess it was supposed to be)
- How when you finally got to see him use his powers (especially in the last ep) it was this trippy montage of swirling blackness and wolf faces and eyeballs and just symbolic weirdness.
Not incredibly bizarre by anime standards. Worth a watch but no Ghost In The Shell or Serial Experiments Lain.

Oh, btw, there's a Watchmen movie coming out either late this year or early next year for anyone who didn't know. Zack Snyder will be directing, fresh from "300" and apparently it'll use similar visual effects. I'm not familiar with the comic, but everyone talks about it like it's the bee's knees, so i guess i should.

rorshach from the watchmen was in the very first 300 trailer. just one frame of him holding the comedian's badge
